What is a Custom Sublimated Towel?

A custom sublimated towel is a towel where your design — a photograph, a complex logo, an illustration, or any full-color artwork — is infused directly into the fabric using a heat-activated dye process. Unlike woven towels (which weave a simple design into the threads) or screen-printed towels (which sit on the surface), sublimation makes the image part of the fibers themselves. The result is photo-quality color and detail that won't crack, peel, or fade — even after years of washing.

Sublimation has no color limit. Where screen printing charges per color and weaving caps you at a small palette, a sublimated towel can carry millions of colors in a single design — gradients, photo-realism, and intricate detail included. If you can imagine it, we can print it.

The Custom Sublimation Process

Sublimation is what makes photo-quality printing on a towel possible. Your design is first printed onto specialized sublimation paper using dye-based inks. The paper is then placed against the towel and run through a heat press, where high temperature converts the dye directly from solid into gas. The gas penetrates the towel's fibers and bonds with them as it cools — meaning the image isn't sitting on top of the towel, it's part of the towel. The towels are then set aside to cool fully before finishing and inspection.

A Print That Won't Fade, Crack, or Peel

Because the dye becomes part of the fabric itself, a sublimated towel retains its image for years. There's no surface layer to crack or peel, and the dye is locked inside the fibers, so frequent washing and direct sunlight don't degrade the print. Your custom sublimated towel will look as sharp on its hundredth use as it did on its first.

Artwork Requirements for Sublimated Towels

To get the photo-quality result sublimation is known for, your artwork should be supplied at 300 DPI or higher at the towel's actual print size. Vector files, high-resolution photographs, and print-ready illustrations all work well. If you're unsure whether your artwork is print-ready, send it over and we'll review it before production.

Custom Sublimated Towel Sizes

Our custom sublimated towels are available in two sizes: 30×60 and 35×60. The larger 35×60 size gives your design more room to breathe — particularly important for photographic prints and detailed artwork — and we recommend it for most sublimation projects.

How Long Do Custom Sublimated Towels Take to Process?

Custom sublimated towel orders take approximately 4–5 weeks from artwork approval to ship. The sublimation and curing process can't be rushed without compromising image quality, so we use that time to ensure every towel meets our color, detail, and durability standards.

Sublimated vs. Woven vs. Printed Towels: Which Should You Choose?

Each towel printing method has its strengths. Choosing the right one depends on your design:

• Sublimated towels (this page): Best for full-color photographs, complex multi-color logos, gradients, and detailed artwork. Soft hand, photo-quality results, unlimited colors.
• Custom woven towels: Best for simple 2–6 color logos and team designs woven directly into the fabric. Premium, textured look with a classic team-towel feel.
• Custom printed towels: Best for single-color or simple logo prints, particularly in larger volumes.
